“Process”

In an industry that’s constantly racing towards the next trend of the week, Declarative is here to be slow. The line is entirely handmade by designer and founder Kristine Rodriguez out of her Seattle, WA studio. Using spools of natural fiber yarn and her hand-powered knitting machine, Kristine meticulously builds the fabric and silhouette of each garment, one row at a time.

This series, titled “Process” (2019), not only features Declarative knitwear, but also the slow and sustainable way in which these garments are made. From a spool of yarn to the knitting machine and into the final knits themselves, this project aims to display Declarative’s process in a simple yet striking way. Using a limited palette of white, ecru and Mariko’s skin tone, visuals are paired down to just the essentials revealing the intimate connection between people, their clothes and how their clothes are made. It’s a relationship that exists long after a garment leaves production.
